The Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class hatchbacks are very important models. Around 1/5th of Mercedes Benz India Limited’s sales come through via these two hatchbacks which sit at the very beginning of MBIL’s line-up. The German car maker is looking to keep the momentum going and is launching two special edition cars tomorrow i.e. 24th June 2014. The Edition 1 Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class will be mildly updated variants that will be sold in limited numbers.
Mercedes-Benz has been consistent with their year of excellence plan. The road map includes a total of 10 new launches this year and with the arrival of these two new models, that number will go from 6 to 8 launches completed. The Edition 1 is based on the A 180 and B 180 diesel variants only.
The Edition 1 version of the Mercedes Benz A Class 180 CDI Diesel features:
- New Tremolite grey alloy wheel design
- Black paint finish for the ORVMs
- Edition 1 decal on side skirting and badge near sunroof control
- Panoramic sunroof that functions electrically
- Electric adjustment for passenger seat with memory functions
- Folding rear seats to free up luggage space
- Arm rest for rear seat
- Reverse camera (but no sensors)
- Raised suspension to improve ground clearance
The Edition 1 version of the Mercedes-Benz B 180 CDI features:
- New 5 spoke alloy wheel design
- Black paint finish for the ORVMs
- Edition 1 decal on side skirting and badge near sunroof control
- Panoramic sunroof that functions electrically
- Electric adjustment for passenger seat with memory functions
- Entertainment system at the back with two screens
- Arm rest for rear seat
- Reverse camera (again, no sensors)
- Raised ground clearance
Mechanically both cars are the same as the A 180 CDI and B 180 CDI. The Edition 1 A-Class is powered by 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 107 hp of power between 3200-4400 rpm and 250 Nm of torque between 1400-2800 rpm. It is mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox that has been tuned for better fuel economy. The Edition 1 B-Class is no different and has the same specifications. The bigger hatchback is of course the B-Class, which consumes a little more fuel and is a fraction slower to the 100 km/h mark because of the added weight.
