The new 9 speed gearbox won’t be available across all variants as the four wheel drive and the AMG models continue the 7 speed gearbox. The 9 speed gearbox is yet to be integrated with the all wheel drive system and sharpness required for the AMG models. Mercedes Benz is continuing the development work on it. Soon after the CLS facelift, the 9 speed gearbox will be the standard gearbox across the Mercedes Benz models replacing the current 7 speed gearbox.
The CLS facelift also comes with the Multi-Beam LED head lamps which are similar to the Audi’s Matrix headlamp. The headlamp has a total of 36 LEDs and among them 24 LEDs works individually to provide maximum brightness. Mercedes has also given a camera on the windshield which provide data for the computer control chip to give assistance for the LEDs in the headlamp to work. The steering feedback is also taken to improve the visibility while cornering.
The changes made in the design of the CLS facelift is very little compared to the current model. The grill along with the front and rear bumpers are tweaked. The interior gets subtle changes as the COMAND screen is now placed on the top of dashboard like the one on the new generation C Class. The engine line up continues to be the same, but the company has replaced the 3.5 L naturally aspirated V6 engine with the new 3.0 L twin turbo V6 unit. Mercedes Benz CLS facelift will be introduced by the middle of next year in India.
