After launching Linea facelift earlier this year, Fiat India is now getting ready to launch Punto facelift. Compared to Linea, which only saw cosmetic changes, Punto facelift promises to be an all-new package, as revealed in these images here.
Manufactured in Italy, Brazil and India, Fiat first launched the Punto back in 2005. Sales in Europe and in Brazil surpassed expectations and the model was clearly a success. But in India, Fiat India struggled to sell the Punto, mostly due to issues with management, dealers, after-sales service, etc.
Now, Fiat India is a completely different company as compared to the one which first launched Punto. Today, Fiat says they have dealt with those past issues, and are treading a new path as far as Indian auto industry is concerned. Of the 4 new cars scheduled for 2014, they have already launched Linea facelift. Next up us Punto facelift, Avventura, and 500 Abarth.
Of these, the first to be launched next month is Fiat Punto facelift. It will be called Punto Evo, as confirmed by Fiat India. It is not the first time Fiat will be using Punto Evo name. They have already used the same for 2009 variant of Punto in Europe, which was later discarded in 2012 when a facelift was launched.
Speaking about the variant for India, this one features restyled headlights, grill finished in chrome, LED tail-lights, new alloys, rear ac vents, new steering design, better quality interiors, steering mounted controls, all black interiors, leather seats, and temporary spare tyre inside the boot.
As far as engine options are concerned, Punto facelift will come with same petrol and diesel mills as seen on the Linea. Expected engine options – petrol Punto Evo will have 1.2l and 1.4l, while the better selling, 1.3l diesel MultiJet Punto Evo will come in two tunes of 75 PS and 90 PS.
Competition will be in the form of Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20 and Volkswagen Polo, all three of which are scheduled to get a facelift in the coming weeks.
